Fat Kid Adventure #57: The Public (San Francisco - SOMA)

Nice and trendy lounge and restaurant in the SOMA district of San Francisco. Semi-pricey, but also pretty deserving. There's a Filipino bartender slash waiter there who's pretty cool and down-to-earth with the menu selection help. We went for Bora's birthday - huge celebration! Dim lighting, semi-loud crowd depending on the day, but very nice atmosphere in general. Try the baby back ribs with soy glaze and cocoa sprinkle for starters and try the vanilla buttermilk panna cotta (fruit coulis) for dessert. The ribs got that meat just sliding off the bone as your bite into it, as if it was wearing some silky lingerie and you're using your teeth to undress it. Ok too much. The panna cotta - YUMMY! I remember a refreshing sweetness and creaminess to it because it was pureed fruit with a splash of vanilla bean. NOW - entrees. I had more ribs (Braised Beef Short Ribs) - OMG so tender and so flavorful! It was cooked with port-cabernet sauce, served with haricot vert, caramelized red pearl onions, baby carrots, and potato puree. Elaborate! Rachel had the jerk chicken (Half Roasted Jerk Spiced Chicken) - fantastic because it reminded her of home (of Jamaican Grill and her mom's garlic rice). It was served with black bean pineapple salsa, achiote rice, and Italian squash.

Germaine played us by encouraging us "all" to get dessert, and then proceeded to not get any. We were confused, but satisfied by the COO-LEEE (coulis).

Definitely recommend this place for a trendy eat before some clubbin.
