Fat Kid Adventure #79: St. Stephen's Green (Mountain View)

(Originally posted on July 17, 2008)

On a typical afternoon right around quitting time, this joint on Castro in downtown Mountain View is quite the lively place. All kinds of people going for the Happy Hour 50% off specials at this Irish pub. Today, I was supposed to be reuniting with my Abbott folks, but ended up only hanging out with Jeff aka Clampie. All the waitresses looked good, and the food was decent, but I don't know whether that's because the waitresses looked good. Anyway - buffalo wings and calamari were the order, and chow-down we did.

The wings were pretty good - nice and hot, right amount of spiciness. For about $8, I don't think there were enough wings - I think maybe 10 wings. The size of the wings weren't too impressive either. So good on the taste, could be better in size and quantity.

The calamari isn't bad. Honestly though, calamari is always good with me so keep that in mind next time you wanna ask me for a big favor. Anyway, the calamari pieces were tiny! I can barely grab and dip them. The tartar and marinara sauces were just the regular stuff. Calamari had good crisp for the breaded outside and pretty tasty insides. For $7 or $8, the quantity is okay.

Jeff also recommends the potato skins.

Overall, this place would be fantastic for Happy Hour - ends at 6.30pm, but overall a bit pricey. But, if it's quitting time and you could care less, this is a nice place to go. Indoor and outdoor seating available.
