Fat Kid Adventure #78: Red Mango (Palo Alto)

(Originally posted on July 13, 2008)

After seeing it a couple times while driving through Red Mango and listening to Tony Li's strong recommendations, Rar and I decided to try this newly opened frozen yogurt joint in downtown Palo Alto. Boy was it busy! We went around 11pm at night, and the place was pretty packed. Overall good design, nice and trendy, very comfy looking and feeling. Opened as a franchise by a Stanford alum and Survivor winner, this place seeks to take on the other froyo go-to in Palo Alto, Fraiche. The froyo here is thicker, more tarty, and you can really taste the milk. Both of us enjoyed the thick consistency. We tried a medium size original flavor froyo (you can also choose green tea flavor, but I have had experience with that in the past) with 2 toppings - fruity pebbles and raspberry. Since the froyo was already kind of tangy, the toppings should not have been tangy as well - should have been something that counters the tanginess. Therefore, the raspberries were not the best choice. The fruity pebbles, sweet and crunchy, matched very well with the froyo. Red Mango opens until 12.30am. Good place to try, but we like Fraiche slightly more.
