Fat Kid Adventure #75: Bay Leaf (Sunnyvale)

(Originally posted on April 25, 2008)

A nice little lunch and dinner joint in Sunnyvale on the corner of Sunnyvale and Evelyn, Bay Leaf is a Indonesian & Thai restaurant. Nice to okay atmosphere and service and well-priced dishes make this place quite nice. Went there for lunch with Jeff and Rar, and we had Thai iced tea, taro cakes (potato, ground beef, taro) wth plum sauce, spicy seafood tom yum, red curry with chicken, and Balinese banana fish. All were somewhat spicy, but the steamed rice and Thai iced tea worked their magic. First time I have had something specifically Balinese, and I am proud to add that onto my culinary ethnographic map. The fish was nice and tender, well marinated as it was wrapped up in banana leaf with all the flavorful ingredients. The spicy seafood tom yum had mussels, shrimps, mushrooms, squid, scallops, etc in a spicy brothy sauce. The red curry with chicken is trademark with semi-thick soupy sauce and some tender chicken and red pepper. Overall and nice quick meal - start to finish in 50 minutes. :D
