Fat Kid Adventure #73: Peohe's (Coronado)

(Originally postd on April 21, 2008)

Peohe's - pronounced "pee-o-ees."

Hawaiian fusion in Coronado - PRIME. We were so full from Islander Grill and Extraordinary Desserts that we only ordered an appetizer, a salad, and a Rainbow roll - wait I thought we were full? Psyche! Always room to holla at mo' food! With a view of the bay, we took our sweet time. The waiter was very nice, the atmosphere was very dimly lit and the seating very non-standardly placed, and the music itself a fusion of R&B and classical romance. Must warn - pretty expensive. Suggest this joint for team-building exercises or other excuses that can be expensed by your company :D

The complimentary bread/rolls were really good - hot and soft! We had Ahi Tuna Spring Rolls (fat spring rolls stuffed with cubed ahi poke style tuna and vegetables and drizzled with some berry-like wasabi vinaigrette) to start, Seafood Salad (poached scallops, smoked salmon, bacon, lobster, shrimp, crab on a medley of field greens with goat cheese - served with orange ginger vinaigrette), and a Rainbow roll (an 8-pc lobster California roll topped with tuna, yellowtail, salmon, white fish, shrimp and avocado). There is a signature Hot Chocolate Lava Cake that we did not order because 1) it takes 30 minutes to prepare, and 2) we were way too full. Unfortunately, the lighting was so dim that I cannot go into these dishes in detail, but I can say that: the spring rolls very actually kind of juicy in a very good way because the outer shell was still crispy and the wasabi gave it a kick, one order of that salad was split for two and was way more than enough, and the sashimi laid on the sushi were very very fresh.

SO GOOD. For once I did not finish my plate. This place is definitely a great place to come for a classy date. Come come!
