Fat Kid Adventure #58: Three Seasons [V-Day Edition] (Palo Alto)

(Originally posted on February 21, 2008)

So I will jump forward in time several months to this past Valentine's Day.

Three Seasons is very nice, 2-story Vietnamese fusion joint in downtown Palo Alto, and it accommodated us well for a romantic Valentine's Day dinner. With a set menu that comes with champagne, it provided a well-portioned meal and a cozy atmosphere. For appetizers - one plate of crab cakes, Thai chicken salad, and traditional spring rolls with peanut sawwwwce. This butters up the taste just right because it's not an overwhelming portion, just enough for two. The wait was a bit long for the entrees. I finally got my Bo Luc Lac (Shaking Beef) with grilled onions, black pepper, and garlic sauce, served with fresh watercress; and Rachel got her Steamed Chilean Sea Bass in a small pot cooked with Shiitake mushrooms, glass noodles, ginger, mushrooms, and LILY BUDS (interesting, no?). Served on brown rice, which has a "solid" but slightly bland taste for rice on its own (as if to beg for a topping), both dishes were very tasty. The sea bass - well cooked, tender, falls apart in the mouth, yet still tensile when chewed. The cubed beef was really tender - medium rare - and the sauce was well infused, which means OH LORDY! Desserts were very nice as well - she had the fried banana with coconut shavings, and I had the banana spring rolls with Tahitian vanilla ice cream. You can't escape the bananas, but they are sooo guuuuhhhhd. Tahitian vanilla ice cream has a tiny twist to it - a nice little kick. Excellent food, great service, private atmosphere = beautiful night!
