Went up to Berkeley to visit J-booty and Gigz - fantastic time at the Dara Thao Lao - good Thai and Lao food + hilarious people watching. This cozy little place on Shattuck offers interior and exterior dining. In the spirit of people watching, we chose to sit outside and boy was it worth it. We had Tom ka - coconut soup with tofu and a whole bunch of other veggie goodies with a kick of sourness, Masaman curry with pork - baller saucin', and the chicken [flat] noodles that I forgot the name of. The exterior dining section was elevated from the street level, and the tables and seats were mostly traditional looking pieces with a touch of that exotic southeast Asian funkiness. The food was pretty good - definitely recommend Masaman and baller noodles. Our seating was an excellent people watching spot because the restaurant was located at an intersection so there were plenty of people milling about for us to scrutinize. Service may take a bit long, but the food is decently worth the wait.
