Fat Kid Adventure #19: Zeni (San Jose)

BALLIN' ASS ETHIOPIAN RESTAURANT - RECOMMENDED FOR ANYONE AND EVERYONE.

This little exotic gem in San Jose is as traditional as it gets with Ethiopian food around here. Family-owned with a family atmosphere, the second you walk in you just feel chill. The dinner with RaDa, Ruth, Dawn and Marshon was faaaaanTAstic. This is what you should order when you go there: get the Gebera which is a meat combo - it's like a sampler where you can choose up to five different meat plates. I'm tellin yall that mess is DELISH. In our combo, we had Ye Doro Tibs (cubed chicken sauteed in bebere spice - get it done 'juicy'), Alitcha Wot (spicy beef stew chopped and simmered in spicy butter onion, garlic, ginger an turmeric), Shiro Wot (roasted and powdered chickpeas simmered in hot and spicy berbere sauce), Gomen Wot (hopped collard greens simmered in oil, onions and herbs), and Kik Alitcha (split yellow peas made with onion, garlic, ginger, and turmeric). Not all selections in the combo has to be meat. Although every selection was magnificent, the Kik Alitcha was a bit too grainy for me. The best thing about this place is the way of eating - you pick food up with this bread called injera. It's like the naan bread in Indian food. Make sure to get down and dirty with this food because it is DELECTABLE. This is one fantastic restaurant and tonight is probably my fourth or fifth time there. You'd be a fool to not go!
